Logo Registration

Since a logo is the visual entity signifying an organization, logo design is an important area of graphic design. A logo is the central element of a complex identification system that must be functionally extended to all communications of an organization. Therefore, the design of logos and their incorporation in a visual identity system is one of the most difficult and important areas of graphic design, points to consider while designing a logo are the target audience, culture of the company, company’s colour, font choice, business name and tag line. Logo’s need not incorporate the business name or tag line. But when logo are too registered as a Trademark, then it must incorporate the business name.

  • Word mark (Text) – Word marks work best when the name of the company is very distinctive. Google has a simple, minimalist logo design, but it works for them in part because their name is so quirky and memorable. Many times, custom fonts are created specifically for brands to use across all their marketing and branding collateral. Some examples include Facebook, Disney and Sony
  • Letter mark (Initials) Letter marks are exclusively typographic as they use a symbol representing the company through the use of its initials or initials of company name. Many companies choose to use this type of logo because their initials can better graphically illustrate the company better than the full name (name is too long), the name is hard to pronounce, or it’s just not distinct enough to carry its own weight.eg. IBM, HP
  • Combination Mark (Text and Symbol) – 56% of the top brands’ logos incorporate both text and a symbol. Combination marks (occasionally known as iconic logotypes)Also if we look legal perspective, combination marks tend to be easier to trademark than symbol-only logos as it is unique. eg. Adidas
  • Emblem (Text inside Symbol) – Unlike combination marks, which position text and symbols side-by-side, emblems involve placing text inside of a symbol so that the two are practically inseparable. They tend to resemble the look of an official badge or seal. eg. Starbucks
  • Brand mark (Symbol or Icon) – logos (which consist only of a symbol or icon) can give your audience a clear representation of your company’s identity without the use of words or letters. The image is abstract and stylized to give visual interest. The human mind can easily remember a simple form much easier than a complex one. eg. Mercedes Logo
  • Mascots- Often colourful, sometimes cartoonist, and most always fun, the mascot logo is a great way to create your very own brand spokesperson. A mascot is simply an illustrated character that represents your company. Eg. KFC colonel
